It can be easy to have a patio installed and then just let it go by the wayside. You get busy and where you were once so excited to decorate your outdoor living space, now you’re stuck looking at a boring slab of rock or concrete. It doesn’t have to be a burden of a space, though. There are plenty of ways to really change the entire vibe of your patio.

Add a Centerpiece

For those that really want to go all out for their patio, adding a main point of focus can really go a long way. You can keep it simple with just a fire pit or go bigger and have an outdoor fireplace installed. Outdoor kitchens are also becoming more and more popular as well, and for those that enjoy cooking and entertaining outdoors, it’s a perfect option. Introducing a focal point to your patio will help take up some of the empty space as well as give you a better idea of how to decorate.

Add Some Shade

If you have a patio but it sits out in the hot sun all day, it can be hard to want to get outside and utilize the space. This is another more costly option but adding in a pergola or some other major porch covering can be incredibly helpful for the space. If you know you would use your patio more often if it was covered, this is a wonderful investment for you. It will keep the sun off of you, keep your patio cooler, and you will have to worry less about any furniture on your patio getting destroyed by the elements.

Add Furniture

This may seem a little obvious but adding furniture to your patio will put a lot of life back into your patio. You can use it to make the area seem cozy, if that’s what you’re going for. Picking and choosing the type of furniture you want, and coordinating colors of woods, metals, and fabric can completely change the energy of your space. If you already have a focal point, arranging your furniture can be very easy since you likely want it to face the centerpiece, whatever it may be.

Add Some Greenery

Plants are always a wonderful way to add most life to your patio. Installing some planter boxes for an herb garden is great because you get to use it as a decoration as well as ingredients for any cooking you do. Or maybe some flowers are more your style, which is also a great choice. You can coordinate the colors of your furniture to the colors of the flowers you want to plant on your patio, and it will be sure to bring you and any guests you might have lots of joy.

Add Some Art

Many people might not even think to add art to their porch or patio. It’s easy to forget that art doesn’t just consist of painting hung on walls, but encompasses sculptures, statues, fountains, and many other things. Adding a tiny water feature to your patio can be a nice addition, and the trickling of the water can be quite relaxing. Wind chimes and bird feeders can also be considered art. Having the melodic clinking of chimes hitting one another is a serene option for your patio, or watching bird come up and eat out of a feeder can be nice entertainment.

It can seem overwhelming to try to take your bland patio to something more sophisticated, but it doesn’t have to be. Just following some of the ideas on this list can easily add life back into your outdoor living space.
