The cold months have just started, and it’s only getting colder from here on out. Unfortunately, this is also the time that many people have the most free time off of work to focus on their personal projects. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t great projects you could be working on, though. Here are a few you could set your sights on this winter.

Projects You Can Do at Home

  • Painting/Staining: This is one of the simplest ways to add a little spice to your yard. Painting or staining something is very easy to do, and even if you don’t want to have to do it yourself, you can hire someone to do it for you for relatively cheap. Even something as easy as repainting your backdoor or staining your deck furniture can completely change the feel of your backyard space and totally revamp the area. This is a project that can be completed relatively quickly as well, so you can enjoy the results quickly!
  • Shopping for the Spring: The cold months are a great time for you to step back and take inventory of what you have left from the warm months, what worked and didn’t work for you that year, and then start compiling a list of what you want to do the same or differently for the upcoming spring. Maybe some of the vegetables you planted the previous year didn’t work out that well, now you can assess everything and figure out what you want to plant in their place and then start acquiring the necessary tools to do so. You might be able to find some of the things you need on sale since it’s an off season as well.

Projects You Can Hire a Contractor to Do

  • Build a Fire Feature: Living in Texas means that even when it’s winter, you can usually enjoy the outdoors still as long as you have something to keep you warm. Investing in some sort of fire feature is the best way to let you continue utilizing your backyard even when it gets colder. If you want something fairly simple and lowkey, a fire pit would work great for you. If you’re interested in something a bit more extravagant, an outdoor fireplace can be a wonderful option because it can keep you warm, but also be a beautiful centerpiece for your space. Fire features also don’t take very long to construct and install, so if you act now, you could most likely be able to start utilizing yours before winter is even over!
  • Hardscaping: Winter is already going to be tough on your plants and grasses, so you won’t want to mess with them during the cold months because doing so could potentially mean killing them. A better focus during the harsh weather is hardscaping. Hardscaping is basically anything non-living around your home. A good example of some easy hardscaping you could do that would not only add some life to your outdoor space, but also help protect the flora of your yard would be a paved walkway of some sort. Whether you have concrete poured, or you have large stones laid down, a walkway will keep people off your grass so as to not unnecessarily damage it during the winter months.
