Many people already know and love concrete patios, but did you know there are many different types of decorative concrete that will add a little bit more spice to your outdoor living area.

The benefit to decorative concrete is that it’s a cheaper way to get a beautiful patio.

Stained Concrete

Staining concrete is a great way to make a simple concrete patio look more pleasing to the eye.

You can completely change the color and design of your concrete purely by staining it.

There are two types of stains: water-based and acid.

Water-based stains give a more even distribution of color, and they come is many bright colors options.

Acid stain provide more variation and can be a bit uneven, but this will create unique designs that water-based stains just can’t give you.

Staining concrete is great for anyone who already has a concrete patio and just wants to change it up a bit.

Stamped Concrete

Everyone loves stamped concrete.

This is when regular poured concrete sets up for a bit and then is stamped with molds, or patterns, to leave imprints in the concrete.

Using this method allows you to get the look of practically any other material, such as pavers, bricks, tiles, or stone, without having to empty your wallet.

You can also use multiple different stamps to add a unique style to your patio.

Colored Concrete

Before concrete is ever poured, it can be dyed to change up the feel of your patio.

When concrete is stamped, dyes can also be added to give more definition to the imprinted designs and make the patterns look even more authentic.

Overlays

For anyone who can’t afford to completely replace their concrete patio, overlays can use used on top of existing concrete.

They can be stamped or engraved just like fresh concrete, but for only a fraction of the cost.

Sealed Concrete

Sealing concrete is most often used indoors but can be used outdoors as well.

Sealing it will make it smooth, shiny, and add a layer of protection.

The sealing process prevents scratches and stains and can be super beneficial in making the concrete last longer.
