When you’re trying to figure out the best time to start home or outdoor remodels, you probably aren’t thinking about doing them during the winter holidays, but you should, and here’s why:

1. Remodels can be a perfect holiday gift – For many spouses, you may have a “no gifts” rule or a limit on how much you spend on one another and inevitably it never quite works out right. One of you might spend more than the other, or maybe someone breaks the “no gift” rule and so each year you stress more and more trying to figure out what to get your spouse. Going in together on outdoor living space remodel is the perfect option! This way, it’s one big gift you both can share and appreciate, and there is no guessing of “will they like this?” or “did they get me something this year?”

2. Off-season pricing and availability – For many contractors, business tends to be a lot slower in the winter months. This is ideal if you want to have free reign of when to start your project, and you like a good deal. Since there is more availability, construction time is also usually shorter since they can get in, do your project, and get out without having to worry about fitting in other jobs elsewhere. Subcontractors generally don’t charge as much either during this time, and often they can get deals on materials for your remodel as well. All in all, you get a better value for your money during the winter months.

3. Being off work and traveling to steer clear of construction – During the holidays you are likely running to multiple different family members’ houses or maybe going on a planned vacation, which is ideal when you have a whole construction crew in your backyard every day. You won’t have to worry about being woken up early by noisy construction, or your kids or pets running outside and bothering the crew or possibly getting hurt or into trouble, because you won’t even be home most of the time.

4. You don’t have to worry about hosting holiday get-togethers – Planning family dinners or get-togethers with friends over the holidays can be incredibly stressful. You have to figure out who all is coming, find the space for anyone who needs to stay the night, make sure you cook food everyone will love, on top of getting gifts for everyone and generally being a good host. It can be incredibly overwhelming, but if you have construction going on during the holidays, you have an excuse to do any get-togethers or parties at other people’s homes instead of yours! This can take a lot of the unnecessary stress off of you, and then when you get back from your trips, you’ll have a nicely remodeled space to enjoy.
